Graece γλυκύῤῥιζα, h. e. radrx dulcis, alias Σκυθική ῥίζα, Scythica radix, uno nomine Σκύθιον, quod in Scythia, circa Maeotim paludem plurima nasceretur; radix est rota lignea, coloris buxei plane et pallidi, cuius ligno ξανθίζεςθαι τάς γυναῖκας καὶ βάπτειν τὰ ἕρια, capillos suos nudieres, et lanas tingere consuevisse Vetr. hesych. ait. Hinc χρυσόξυλον, quasi aureum lignum, appellatum suo tempore, in Graecia, notant Interpretes Aristophanis et Theocriti. Notus certe pallorauri. Catull. De Neptiis Pelei theridos Carm. 64. v. 100.
